millions of aspiring authors

Millions of aspiring authors Writing is the most dreamt-of career in the UK, according to new research.

A YouGov poll has found that more graduates and other Britons want to be authors than take on any other job.

Nearly ten per cent of those questioned said it was their ideal profession.

It seems that many still aspire to the dreams of their youth. Jobs making the top five also included pilot, astronaut and sports personality.

Many students will have been inspired by the rags-to-riches rise to fame of author JK Rowling, whose meteoric rise to the top of the bestseller list made her the richest woman in Britain.

And good news for those aspiring authors struggling to fund their way through university - there are now more part-time and freelance writing jobs available than ever.

This is largely due to the development of the internet, which has led to millions of online writing groups and new forms of getting work published.

Many students take on freelance paid writing work to help fund their studies.

This is an extremely competitive field, however, and the more journalistic experience you already have on your CV, the better.
