halifax student card launched
20-Aug-2007

Halifax student card launched Halifax is launching a new credit card, designed specifically for students.

The card has been designed to help students manage their debts and has a number of features to keep stretched finances under control.

These include free monthly text alerts reminding cardholders of their payment due date - and free weekly text alerts letting them know what their balance is.

The card, with a competitive rate of 17.9 per cent APR, also has a maximum credit limit of £500. Students can, if they choose, also set a lower limit when they activate their card to make sure they don't spend over budget.

Ken Stannard, head of Halifax Credit Cards, said: "Halifax already boasts a market leading student current account and our student credit card is no exception. We offer students a lower APR than rivals such as Lloyds TSB and NatWest.

"Our new text service will allow students to monitor and control their finances more closely as well as giving them the convenience of using a credit card."

Unlike cards provided by several other banks, students won't have to have a Halifax Student Current Account to qualify for the Halifax Student Credit Card.

Cardholders can also take advantage of several student discounts, including ten per cent off HP Store (Hewlett Packard) and up to 25 per cent off Lonely Planet guides.
