Sanctuary Group Could Create 500 Jobs & Apprenticeships In Worcester

Sanctuary Group, a housing and care provision specialist, could create 500 new full and part time jobs in Worcester if plans to build new offices in the city are given the green light.

The 500 jobs could also include some Worcester apprenticeships and even more vacancies would be created with temporary construction positions on offer in the building phase.

The new offices would span over 3,800 square metres of floor space over five storeys and would be built in close proximity to their existing headquarters at Worcester’s Sanctuary House.

Sanctuary Group already employs 1,500 people throughout the county of Worcestershire. Nationwide the company provides jobs for more than 12,000 members of staff.

Praising the city as a work base, a spokesperson for the Sanctuary Group said: “Worcester is a great place to live and work and we are ambitious to grow in the local area. The application to build new office premises on Farrier Street, backing onto our existing Worcester campus on Castle Street, is to replace elapsed planning permission and to give us expansion options if required.”

Local councillors seem to welcome the Sanctuary Group plans, with Economic Development & Planning Policy Team Leader, Maria Dunn, saying: “This is a variation to a previously approved scheme. This is a sustainable location for intensive office use and a very welcome development that will help to close the gap between the targets in the South Worcestershire Development Plan for employment supporting development and the slow progress towards these targets since 2006.”

Worcester City Council’s Economic Development & Regeneration Team Leader, Nick Kay, added: “The building will provide office accommodation within the City for approximately 500 additional jobs once completed, along with additional jobs during its construction, and as such will have significant benefits towards employment opportunities within Worcester.”

“This level of investment, from Sanctuary Housing, should be encouraged and the potential job creation should be strongly supported. It is hoped that, if approved, the facility will positively invest in training and apprenticeships to ensure a workforce is available, locally, to satisfy the occupier's future employment needs,” concluded Mr Kay.

Worcester City Council will now consider the Sanctuary Group office plans and return a decision in the coming months.
