grads should pick jobs with care
08-Aug-2007

Grads should pick jobs with care University leavers might be tempted to pounce on anything resembling a salary - but they should consider their options carefully, according to one recruitment consultant.

Several sectors of employment are currently suffering from a shortage of graduate recruits who have the relevant skills.

This means that finalists whose skills do tick all the right boxes are likely to receive several offers.

As reported by Onrec.com, Daniel Hyland of Carlton Resource Solutions recently emphasised that candidates in this position should consider all the options carefully.

He said that factors such as salary, relocation allowance, holiday entitlement and future prospects should all be taken into account.

Mr Hyland continued: "Deciding whether or not to accept a job offer is an important decision and should not be taken lightly.

"If after careful consideration you determine that the job isn't for you then you should turn it down."

He also said that candidates who turn down a series of jobs may want to consider the possibility that they are not looking in the right sector.

Acknowledging this and redefining career goals can help make the search for employment more enjoyable and constructive.

Harris Interactive's 2007 UK Job Forecast recently found that almost 50 per cent of British employers plan to hire more staff during the third quarter of this year.
