Jacksons Bakery To Create At Least 100 Northamptonshire Jobs

Hull bakery firm Jacksons has announced expansion plans outside of Yorkshire which will see them create around 100 full or part time jobs in Northamptonshire.

Jackson has been given planning permission by the local council for a new £40m state of the art bakery on Corby’s Willowbrook East Industrial Estate.

The new facility, to spread over 10 acres, will concentrate on producing sandwich bread for caterers and manufacturers. If all goes to plan, the Northamptonshire site should be ready to start baking in summer 2018.

Jacksons will start recruitment for the 100 new initial vacancies in Corby next year and extra jobs could be created if the new bakery proves a success.

As a Hull bakery, Jacksons has been in business for over a century and now counts Aunt Bessie’s and Abel & Cole amongst its sister businesses.

Managing Director of Jacksons, Simon Ball, said: “The new [Corby] bakery will help us grow as a business and allow us to build on the work we do in Hull. We have a brilliant team working on the expansion project, and there’s a real buzz of excitement right across our business as we have the opportunity to create something really special, which will be at the forefront of bread-making in the UK.”

“Corby provides us with an excellent base and we can’t wait to start recruiting new colleagues and see our new facility up and running next summer,” added Mr Ball.

Norman Soutar, Chief Executive Officer of parent company William Jackson Food Group, also commented, saying: “The group and its family shareholders have invested significantly in the Hull bakery over recent years, and indeed continue to invest in the Hull site.”

“We take a long-term approach to the individual businesses in the group, allowing them time to grow and develop and we're very much looking forward to seeing how the next chapter of the bakery's life unfolds,” said Mr Soutar.
