Lidl Creates 500 Exeter Jobs With New South West Distribution Hub

Lidl is to create 500 new full or part time jobs in Exeter with the opening of a new distribution hub for the South West region.

The huge warehouse is the German supermarket chain’s largest in the United Kingdom and has cost them £55 million to establish.

The South West distribution hub is the third facility which Lidl, the UK's fastest growing supermarket, has opened in the last twelve months and becomes the company’s 12th warehouse in the country.

The new Exeter warehouse will supply over 50 Lidl stores in the South West region, creating a mix of full and part time jobs in Devon cathedral city.

Recently, Lidl pledged to increase the pay rate for its lowest paid employees, rising from £9.75 to £10.20 per hour in London and from £8.45 to £8.75 per hour in other parts of the UK.

Lidl’s regional director for the South West, Mark Henry, said: “The South West is an important region for Lidl and it’s an area where we’ve experienced particularly strong growth. We remain committed to creating high-quality jobs for the communities we serve and this new centre gives us another great opportunity to do just that.”

“We consider many different elements when looking for a new warehouse location, including a fantastic local talent pool, which the South West delivers. We’re excited to welcome new Lidl team members to the business over the coming months,” added Mr Henry.
