Amazon To Create 20,000 Christmas Jobs In 2017

Amazon is to create around 20,000 Christmas jobs at fulfilment centres in various UK locations this year.

Amazon has 3 fulfilment centres in Doncaster and one each in Coalville, Coventry, Daventry, Dunfermline, Dunstable, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Leicester, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Rugely, Swansea, Tilbury and Warrington.

Christmas jobs will be available in all 16 of Amazon’s fulfilment centres with hourly pay for seasonal staff starting at £7.65. Roles available will mainly be for warehouse operative like pickers, packers and shippers to help Amazon deliver a record number of items in the run up to Christmas 2017.

Doncaster will have 800 Amazon Christmas jobs available, adding 80 per cent to the permanent head count at their three fulfilment centres in the South Yorkshire market town.

Commenting on the Doncaster Christmas jobs, general manager, Stuart Morgan, said: “We look forward to welcoming more than 800 seasonal workers at Doncaster to play an integral role in helping us deliver an exceptional experience for our customers during the Christmas season.”

“We plan all year round for the festive period and the increase in people at our site to provide a positive work environment with a series of fun events that can be enjoyed by everyone,” added Mr Morgan.

Peterborough and Rugely will have 2,500 Christmas vacancies each, while Warrington will benefit from 1,000 seasonal roles at Amazon this year.

Welcoming the Rugely Christmas jobs, Councillor Alan Dudson, chairman of Cannock Chase District Council, said “The support for jobs in our community is always hugely welcomed and I am delighted to see that Amazon are contributing to increasing employment in Staffordshire.”

A further 13,000 holiday vacancies will be based at other Amazon fulfilment centres across the country and recruitment is already under way for many of the positions.

Amazon’s director of UK customer fulfilment, Stefano Perego, said: “We prepare year round for the festive season and we’re excited to have over 20,000 seasonal positions available this year to help delight our customers.”

“We look forward to welcoming back seasonal workers who return year-after-year to work at Amazon and welcome new faces to the seasonal team,” added Mr Perego.
