Postal delivery firm Whistl has opened a new depot in the North West in a move which will create up to 500 jobs in Bolton.

Whistl, which was formerly known as TNT Post UK and is now the second biggest postal operator in the UK, has opened its latest delivery hub at Logistics North in the Over Hulton area of Bolton by Junction 4 of the M61.

The 225,000 square foot ‘super depot’ has over 30 loading areas, 50 trailer parking spaces, more than 220 car parking spaces and 4 level access doors.

Dozens of vacancies are already earmarked for local people who have been long-term unemployed but hundreds more positions will be advertised by Whistl over the coming months.

Once the latest recruitment drive is finished, Whistl will employ more than 3,000 people in full and part time roles across the United Kingdom.

Chief Executive Officer for Whistl, Nick Wells, said: “The opening of Bolton is a significant development for us at Whistl as we continue to invest in the business to provide clients with the highest quality and most efficient service. I am pleased that clients and representatives from the local community joined us today to celebrate this significant milestone for our company.”

Leader of Bolton Council, Councillor Cliff Morris, welcomed the opening of the new facility, saying: “It is fantastic to see this depot open, and to see Whistl joining the likes of Aldi, Lidl and MBDA on this flagship development. We have been working closely with Whistl, through the Team Bolton Partnership, on employment and training opportunities for our residents.”

“So far we have ring-fenced 60 vacancies for people who have been out of work long-term and more recruitment is planned for later in the year,” added Councillor Morris.
