Adzuna, the job ad search engine, has released research which shows that 12,000 summer jobs are still up for grabs in the UK this year.

Many of the best summer jobs will be working at festivals and sporting events according to Adzuna.

Big festivals such as Glastonbury, Leeds and Reading account for thousands of the temporary jobs, as do popular sporting events such as Wimbledon and Royal Ascot. Glastonbury needs over 30,000 members of staff in various roles to make the festival a success - but thousands of those jobs have already been filled for this summer.

The two week Wimbledon tennis tournament alone needs 6,000 workers to pull off roles such as ball boys, ball girls, stewards and servers of over 100,000 portions of strawberries and cream.

In total, Adzuna reports that 12,427 seasonal roles were still waiting to be filled in June, up by almost 25 per cent on two years ago.

Most of the summer vacancies are in London and other parts of the South East, which account for over half of all of the holiday jobs on offer, but there will be hundreds of temporary jobs and seasonal roles all over the UK too.

London alone had 3,864 summer vacancies still going begging, so students in the capital should have no problem finding a seasonal role if they apply soon.

Commenting on the thousands of jobs still on offer this summer, founder of Adzuna, Doug Monro, said: “Plenty of jobseekers will be looking to boost their bank balances with seasonal work over summer, and the good news is that there are thousands of openings to choose from. The summer calendar of sporting and social events offers many options for temporary work, particularly in London.”

“Meanwhile, skilled professionals can cash-in on holiday season and earn big by taking on specialist locum cover positions,” added Mr Munro, referring to a recent vacancy for a locum General Practitioner in Greenwich which was offering £1,200 per day!
