Celtic FC Proposals Could Create 120 Hotel Jobs In Glasgow

Celtic Football Club have announced ambitious plans for a new hotel complex which it says could create as many as 120 full or part time jobs in Glasgow.

The Celtic Park redevelopment proposals are yet to be considered by Glasgow City Council but would include a museum, a bar & restaurant, a new ticket office and a club shop as well as a 200 bedroom hotel spread over five floors.

A statement submitted with Celtic’s proposal outlines the Glasgow jobs that could come about as a result of the new hotel complex, saying:

“The proposed development will result in the creation of some 100 to 120 permanent full and part-time jobs and will contribute positively to the regeneration of the Clyde Gateway area.

“The direct creation of over 100 new employment opportunities will be a major boost to the area and will clearly contribute towards the key planning aim of achieving sustainable economic growth.”

The statement goes on to point out a lack of quality overnight accommodation in close proximity to Celtic Park and the nearby Emirates Arena (aka the Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome).

As a result of that Celtic say that all traffic volumes are a big problem on match days with everyone travelling to the ground at the same time. They argue that the new hotel would help alleviate the congestion by allowing people to stay overnight in the immediate area before or after the match.

A knock on effect would be boosting overall tourism in the area, adding to further economic benefits to the city says the club.

Celtic hopes that Glasgow City Council will consider their proposals and reach a decision before the end of 2017...
