Wilko To Create Dozens Of Retail Jobs In The North East

Wilko, the home and garden retail specialist, has announced plans for a new store which will create dozens of jobs in the North East.

The new Wilko store will be in the Silverlink Shopping Park in North Tyneside and it is expected that around 60 new full or part time retail jobs will be created by the opening.

The Wilko store, set to open this March, will be a landmark for the retailer as it notches up its 400th outlet in the UK. There will be 1,500 square metres of floorspace at the new Wilko store and a variety of retail roles will be up for grabs for the people of North Tyneside.

The Retail Director for Wilko, Anthony Houghton, said: “Silverlink Shopping Park has a strong retail offering but we’ve spotted a gap in the market for our range of great quality products at everyday low prices from Wilko.”

“The retail park attracts a diverse range of shoppers, including new homeowners and young families, and I’m confident we’ll reflect this with our product range and store layout. After a hugely successful 2016 for the brand, we have an exciting expansion programme in place which will see us open more stores across the whole of the UK in 2017,” added Mr Houghton.

Wilko, or Wilkinson Hardware Stores as it was known at the time, opened its first store in Leicester in 1930. It has now grown to a chain of hundreds of stores across the UK and employs in excess of 20,000 members of staff.
