Deliveroo, the British online food delivery firm, has announced a recruitment drive to fill 300 new tech jobs in London.

Deliveroo is set to move into new offices on Cannon Street in the capital this summer and says that the new positions will be high-skilled, high-tech jobs.

The company is positioning itself to set up what it describes as one of the ‘largest technology hubs in the UK’ at its new headquarters in the city.

Deliveroo already employs over 1,000 members of staff in full and part time roles around the world. The tech firm has operations in over 130 cities, allowing customers to order takeaway and restaurant food, via an app, from suppliers who don’t offer their own delivery service in the local area.

Deliveroo, founded just four years ago, works with over 20,000 restaurants in a dozen countries worldwide and said that orders via their app had surged by more than 600 per cent last year.

The 300 new tech recruits will join an existing team of 125 employees, with the new roles set to cover behavioural economics, software engineering, algorithm development and other specialist skills.

Commenting on the London recruitment drive, chief executive and founder of Deliveroo, Will Shu said: “Deliveroo is going from strength to strength and growing every single day. London is where I founded this company and it's from our headquarters here that we export our British-born technology around the world. That's why we're now on the lookout for over 300 people to join our engineering team.”

“When so many of the success stories in the on-demand economy have been grown from America, I am particularly proud to be doing this here in Britain,” added Mr Shu.
