Lombard Risk To Create 140 Fintech Jobs In Birmingham

Lombard Risk Management is to open new offices in Birmingham in a move which will create up to 140 ‘fintech’ jobs in the city.

Fintech, short for financial technology, is a growing sector, bringing hundreds of new jobs across the UK. Lombard Risk will create dozens of new Birmingham city centre jobs over the course of the next three years, with some vacancies to be available for graduates at their new hub in Alpha Tower.

Lombard Risk, a global firm which also has bases in Hong Kong, New York, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo considered other worldwide cities for their new offices, but Birmingham came up trumps because of strong existing talent in the city.

Marketing Birmingham is an inward investment agency which backs Lombard Risk’s move to the city. The organisation’s commercial director, Nicola Hewitt, said: “Lombard Risk's decision to invest in Birmingham is fantastic news for the fast-growing fintech economy of the city. Birmingham has become a thriving hotspot for both the technology and finance sectors, already home to major investors including HSBC and Advanced.”

“Lombard Risk has chosen Birmingham over a number of other international locations. This is testament to the strength of the region's talented digital workforce and its centrally connected transport links - both cited as key reasons behind the firm's expansion into the region,” said Ms Hewitt.

Mike Payne, chief tech officer at Lombard Risk, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Lombard Risk, an opportunity to establish a first-class development centre using the most up-to-date technologies and methods. Lombard Risk has a long history of developing innovative financial software and the opening of this centre will continue that tradition as we build the next generation of our products.”

“Lombard Risk aims to be the employer of choice in Birmingham developing first-class software demanded by our clients. Birmingham is a fantastic city with world-class universities nearby and a rich pool of talented technologists, it was an obvious place for us to invest in,” added Mr Payne.
