Over 20,000 Christmas Jobs Still Waiting To Be Filled

With exactly two months until the big day, there are still over 20,000 Christmas jobs to be filled in the UK.

According to job search engine Adzuna the number of Christmas vacancies up for grabs is up by almost a quarter (24 per cent) on this time last year, with 21,000 temporary festive jobs still going begging.

So don’t despair if you haven’t got around to applying for a holiday job this year, there’s still time to find a Christmas job if you get your act together now.

Almost a fifth of the jobs still on offer this Christmas are retail vacancies, a sector which has around 4,000 temp jobs still looking to be filled. Other areas with hundreds of vacancies this Christmas include sales positions, customer services jobs, warehouse roles and hospitality work.

Although the number of festive holiday jobs in London is actually down by around 14 per cent on last year, more than 1 in 4 of the Christmas vacancies still unfilled are being advertised in London and the South East.

Unfortunately, the news of a surge in the number of temporary Christmas vacancies for 2016 is tempered by the fact that you might not get paid quite as much as you would have done last year. Adzuna also report that the typical wage for an Xmas job is down £2 on 2015, with the average holiday position throughout the UK now paying £9.32 an hour, down from over £11 an hour last year.

Commenting on the figures, Co-Founder of Adzuna, Doug Monro, commented, “With a wealth of negative news hitting the job market in 2016, this boost in festive vacancies is sure to put a smile on the faces of British jobseekers.”

“It’s not all good news, however, as average pay for festive workers looks set to drop significantly compared to last year, suggesting some top retail employers may be hiring more staff for entry level positions and cutting back on higher paid management roles,” added Mr Monro.

Don’t wait until you start opening the doors of your advent calendar to apply for temporary jobs this Xmas. Grab one of the hundreds of positions which are still available now from our UK Christmas vacancies section.
