Sitel To Create 700 Plymouth Jobs

Sitel, the American customer experience management & Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company, is to create 700 new Plymouth jobs as it continues to expand its operations in the UK.

Sitel has just sealed a 10 year deal, which was over one year in the making and which will see it move into the iconic Ship building in Derriford, designed by Sir Nicholas Grimshaw CBE. The company is expecting to move into the Ship early next year, creating hundreds of jobs in Plymouth in the process.

In the UK, Sitel now has seven sites and employs of 75,000 members of staff in a variety of roles across its business. Worldwide, Sitel has operations in over 70 countries, with bases in almost 150 locations.

Sitel UK & Ireland’s general manager, Karl Brough, was keen to get things started in Plymouth, saying: “After another year of phenomenal growth in the region, we are proud to be able to announce the launch of our new site in Plymouth and are delighted to bring many new employment opportunities to the area. The Ship is a unique and exciting facility and we look forward to building a truly great place to work for our team.”

Leader of Plymouth City Council, Councillor Ian Bowyer, welcomed the announcement, saying: “This is fantastic news for the city, region, and country, and shows that, post the Brexit vote, we are still open for business and ready to trade with the rest of the world. Hundreds of jobs will be coming to Plymouth, which is great for families living in and around the city and a huge boost to the economy.”

"This sends out the message we are keen to welcome new companies – particularly global brands – as well as nurture existing ones. We know Sitel is a progressive market-leading outsourcing company which will provide valuable career opportunities for our citizens, particularly helping young people get into the job market,” added Mr Bowyer.

Secretary of State for International Trade, Liam Fox, also welcomed the Sitel announcement, describing it as ‘no insignificant investment.’

“This is terrific news for Plymouth and a mark of confidence in the UK post our decision to leave the European Union. Our country remains an incredibly attractive place to invest and it is now our time to seize the opportunities presented to us for trade outside the EU, and hopefully places like Plymouth can continue to prosper,” said Mr Fox.

“This is a 10-year agreement which will help bring up to 700 jobs to the city in what is a major global trade deal,” added the Secretary of State for International Trade.
