New Asda Store To Create Over 240 Supermarket Jobs In Devon

A new Asda store in Barnstaple will create over 240 new supermarket jobs in Devon before it opens its doors to customers this November.

At least 240 full or part time jobs will be generated by the new Asda store, but there could be up to 260 vacancies up for grabs across a range of roles at the supermarket. Recruitment has already begun and scores of jobs will be filled in the next three months.

Barnstaple's Job Centre Plus is helping with recruitment for the first Asda store in the North Devon town. The frontline manager for the job centre, Jo Harris, explained to the North Devon Journal:

“Employment rates over the South West are one of the highest in the UK, and locally we are working closer with employers in the Job Centre to build on this. Asda has taken over our first floor ahead of the new site opening on November 7.”

“For somewhere like here it's massive and they are working closely with us to get the right people in,” added Ms Harris.

Asda, owned by American retailer Walmart, employs over 180,000 people in full and part time roles at its Leeds head office and more than 600 supermarkets and support centres across the UK. One of the perks of working at Asda is that staff can qualify for a 10 per cent discount in their supermarkets, meaning that you will be saving on your shopping while you are earning good money too.

Jobs at supermarkets like Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose offer a great way into the world of work for students. The hours are often very flexible with work available in the evenings and weekends.
