First Contact To Create 500 New Call Centre Jobs

First Contact is to create 500 new call centre jobs in the UK before the end of the year.

The call centre firm has announced expansion plans which will see it create 200 Newcastle jobs in its first phase of recruitment at its offices in Newburn. Further jobs will be advertised by First Contact throughout the year for its offices in Livingston, Scotland and the firm will also be converting around 300 self-employed freelancers into permanent members of staff.

Vacancies will include sales staff, admin teams, customer service advisors and some managerial roles as First Contact expands its services for big clients such as Scottish Power and Utilita Energy.

First Contact only employs around 150 people at the moment, so they will more than quadruple their UK workforce by the end of the year if they meet their recruitment target, which is currently running at about 10 new employees per week.

Founder and managing director of First Contact, Neil Wilson, said: “We are bucking the contact centre trend and retaining our staff, actively recruiting for enthusiastic and motivated people who are keen to build a career in a relaxed, friendly and flexible working environment. I want to create an environment that people actually enjoy coming to work and see it as a career not just a job.”

“This year has been an extremely busy one for us as we see continued growth amid strong demand for our services, particularly around our energy-focused contact centre operations. Success is being driven by the quality of the services we provide and the friendly yet highly skilled and dedicated nature of our frontline sales and customer adviser teams,” added Mr Wilson.

Sales at First Contact have grown by 50 per cent in the last two months alone and the Group says it hopes to reach a turnover of £20 million in their 2017 financial year.

Call centre work can be a good way for students to make money because the hours are often highly flexible with lots of different shifts available. The work can be quite pressured in some offices, but many people thrive on that, and it also means that new vacancies are coming on to the scene all the time.
