In what seems to be turning into regular news, Amazon has announced 1,000 new full or part time jobs for the UK.

In true Brexit-bucking mood, Amazon UK are creating hundreds of new jobs in Cambridge, Edinburgh, Leicestershire, London and Manchester as the firm forecasts an even bigger period of Christmas trading than last year.

The new jobs are permanent roles and over and above the 2,500 vacancies the retail giant announced in January, which also included hundreds of vacancies in Manchester and Leicestershire.

Once the new jobs are filled, Amazon will employ more than 15,000 people directly in the UK. Indirectly, they also claim to support more than 70,000 further jobs via third party sellers on the Amazon Marketplace.

Giving details of why they were launching a new recruitment drive and explaining what sort of positions would be available, Head of Amazon UK, Doug Gurr, said: “We are creating thousands of new jobs to continue to deliver the experience our customers know and love during the festive season and beyond.”

“We are hiring for all types of roles from software engineers, computer programmers and corporate managers in our R&D centres and head office, to operations managers, engineers, service technicians, HR roles and order fulfilment roles in our fulfilment centres.”

And, brushing aside Brexit concerns, Mr Gurr added: “Our sales are in line with expectations. It's business as usual as far as we are concerned. We don't know what the impact will be. As far as we're concerned right now, we're keeping our heads down and continuing to do what we do. We'll deal with whatever situation arises.”
