The government is advertising almost 500 new tax jobs in the Welsh capital and some of them are expected to be Cardiff apprenticeships.

There will be around 480 full time customer service consultant jobs on offer at a new tax office in Cardiff, as the government moves into bigger offices at a new location in the Welsh city in the next few years.

Starting salaries for the Cardiff jobs around £20,000 a year and the deadline for applications is the end of this month - so get in touch with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) very quickly if you fancy doing an apprenticeship with the government. The jobs will involve taking calls over the telephone and dealing with complaints and queries.

Although the location of the new Cardiff tax offices is yet to be announced, the government expects to employ around 3,800 people at the new offices, up from 2,100 at their current location at Ty Glas in the Llanishen area of the city. It is thought that a ‘significant number of people’ who already work for the HMRC in Swansea will also transfer to the new Cardiff offices when that branch also closes.

HMRC offices in Wrexham and Porthmadog are also set to close as the government reduces the total number of its smaller offices and replaces them with fewer, but larger, premises. By the time the reorganisation in complete, due to be during 2020, the government says it will have increased its total headcount in Wales by around 1,000 members of staff.
