Accenture To Add 100 More Jobs In The North East

Accenture, the IT, digital and technology consultancy firm is expanding its headcount in Tyneside in a move which will create up to 100 new jobs in the North East.

The new jobs will be based at Cobalt Business Park where Accenture already employs around 600 employees in a mix of regular jobs, apprenticeships and graduate roles in the North East. Once the new Tyneside recruits are in place, Accenture will have increased its headcount at the Business park from just 200 in 2011 to more than 700 by the end of 2016. Worldwide, Accenture operates in over 120 countries, providing jobs for more than 370,000 people.

The latest recruitment drive in the North Tyneside has been helped by the injection of a £1.85 million grant from North East’s Let’s Grow regional fund.

Simon Allen, senior project manager at the BE Group, which along with UNW are partners in Let’s Grow, said: “We are delighted to be helping Accenture to deliver this massive boost to the local economy. Accenture is providing high skill opportunities for graduates and other talented people in the region, which will help reinforce the North East’s position within the UK knowledge economy.”

Managing director of the Newcastle Delivery Centre, Mark Larsen, added: “This grant recognizes Accenture’s commitment to creating sustainable jobs in the North East. It will accelerate our growth in the region, helping us to create the diverse and highly skilled technology workforce we need and, most importantly, helping us to provide high value jobs for many local people that have faced real challenges in their efforts to secure work.”

Mayor of North Tyneside, Norma Redfearn, welcomed the announcement, saying: “Accenture’s place in the region’s economy is well established following five years of job creation and business growth. We identified the funding opportunity and supported the company’s application for the grant. This will provide further employment opportunities for our local residents and boost the development of the technology sector in the North East.”
