Aldi is to create hundreds of new full and part time jobs in Cardiff this year, as recruitment gets underway for a new distribution centre in Wentloog.
The German’s supermarket chain’s latest distribution facility won’t open until next year, but many of the new Cardiff jobs will be filled by Aldi throughout 2016 to give them time to train up new staff.
Most of the new jobs in Cardiff will be permanent positions, but there could be temporary jobs and part time vacancies on offer at the Aldi warehouse too. A range of commercial, trading and logistics jobs will be available, with everything from cleaning roles to office jobs to warehousing jobs and management positions to be filled at the 40,000 square foot Aldi facility in Cardiff.
Once the new Aldi distribution centre is ready for action, the supermarket could expand with more stores in the area, potentially creating hundreds more in-store jobs in Cardiff.
The distribution centre will cost £59 million to complete, but the Welsh Government has injected £4.5 million into the Aldi investment.
Speaking when the new Aldi distribution centre was announced last March, Economy Minister Edwina Hart said: “Support from the Welsh Government is not only helping to create more than 400 jobs – but it is also opening up wider supply chain opportunities for food and beverage suppliers and indirectly supporting jobs in the construction sector. The new centre will offer a wide range of employment opportunities for people in Cardiff, neighbouring areas and the South Wales Valleys.”
An Aldi spokesperson added: “We are delighted to have the support of the Welsh Government and to be creating over 400 new jobs in Cardiff, underpinning Aldi’s commitment to Wales. We are pleased to be able to offer more people the chance to shop at Aldi and benefit from our everyday low prices and high quality products.”
