More Finance Jobs On The Horizon

New research paints a rosy picture for the number of finance jobs which will be available over the next six months, with almost 2 in 3 finance executives saying they will be hiring in the first half of 2016.

58 per cent of the 300 senior executives surveyed by Robert Half, a recruiter in the finance sector, said they will be adding more staff in the next few months, rising to 63 per cent for London and the South East.

Other recent figures from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies reveal that jobs for finance and accounting professionals rose 16 per cent in the year to December 2015, with salaries for banking jobs up over 10 per cent.

On the other side of coin, finance executives seem concerned both about finding suitable talent and staff retention, with 99 per cent of respondents saying that filling their finance vacancies would be ‘challenging’ and more than 4 in 5 executives worrying that their existing employees could be looking to jump ship if better opportunities come their way.

Commenting on the findings and offering some advice to companies advertising graduate finance jobs and other vacancies in the sector, Robert Half’s director, Matt Weston, said:

“As demand for employees increases the available talent pipeline will continue to shrink. We therefore advise companies in London and the south east to act quickly if they find a candidate with the right skill set and commercial acumen. The best way to remain competitive in the hiring process is to ensure salaries are benchmarked and your existing employees are looked after – either by offering additional perks such as flexible working, or by hiring temporary resources to help ease the pressure of workloads.”

Senior Managing Director of Robert Half, Phil Sheridan, added: “The index highlights that senior executives are confident about their growth plans for 2016 and are actively seeking skilled professionals to add to their headcount. This will not only drive up salaries but will also impact on the ever growing war for talent.”
