Jaguar To Create Hundreds More Jobs In Staffordshire

Jaguar Land Rover, the manufacturer of James Bond’s C-X75 car in Spectre, has said it will be creating ‘hundreds’ more full or part time jobs at its i54 Engine Manufacturing Centre in Staffordshire.

JLR is pumping a further £450 million into doubling the size of its i54 engine plant in South Staffordshire in move which will create hundreds more jobs. The new jobs are in addition to the 1,400 positions which the firm had previously forecast for the completed facility.

There are already 700 people working at JLR’S i54 plant in South Staffordshire but new positions are being added all the time, and strong demand from customers means that the car manufacturer can expand and take on even more staff.

Chief executive Ralf Speth said: “We are proud to be such a significant investor in advanced manufacturing in Britain and are excited by this expansion and the new jobs it will create. The Engine Manufacturing Centre is a strategically significant facility for Jaguar Land Rover. The decision to expand our operations at the site provides a clear signal of our commitment to meeting customer demand for cleaner and more efficient engines, whilst developing the skills and capability that Britain needs if it is to remain globally competitive.”

Rachel Eade of JLR’s Business Growth Service division added: “This £450 million investment reinforces the car maker’s commitment to the UK and underlines how the i54 engine plant is already playing a crucial role in the company’s ambitious plans to double its production output and achieve lower emission engines. As well as the hundreds of jobs set to be created at the plant, there will no doubt be additional spin-offs in the supply chain and we expect our SMEs to be in an ideal position to take advantage of increased volumes and new opportunities.”

Once all of the new jobs have been filled in South Staffordshire, JLR will employ more than 40,000 people worldwide. If the supply chain is added into the equation then it is estimated that JLR sustains jobs for over a quarter of a million people globally.
