Booming Manchester To Create 55,000 Jobs By 2025

The booming north west city of Manchester is set to create 55,000 new full or part time jobs by the year 2025, according to a new report sponsored by BNY Mellon, an investment firm which has had a presence in the city for ten years.

The BNY Mellon report forecasts that over 5,000 Manchester jobs will be created every year as the number of people living within an hour’s commute of the city doubles to 15 million over the course of the next decade.

Improved transport infrastructure will mean that Manchester can support an ever-growing number of jobs, with over 125,000 extra people expected to move to the city by 2025. In order to accommodate the extra workers in Manchester, the BNY Mellon report predicts that almost 100,000 new homes will need to be built in the Lancashire city over the next ten years.

BNY Mellon themselves have been a success story in Manchester, growing from 50 employees in the city ten years ago, to over 1,000 at the present moment.

Commenting on BNY Mellon’s report, the leader of Manchester City Council, Sir Richard Leese, said: “Manchester has a very strong platform for growth in the coming decade, whether it's through emerging opportunities to attract new investment or the scope through devolution to promote the conditions for growth and help ensure our residents are well-placed to share in that success. We are building for the future, as evidenced by the works taking place at the moment to improve the city's transport infrastructure. We are pleased that this report shares our optimism for the city and wider region.”

BNY Mellon’s site executive for Manchester, Matt Wells, said: “The overarching message of Manchester 2025 is that the next decade promises much, including more jobs, large-scale investment and a city that is playing an increasingly crucial role in the future of the UK economy. This potential will not be fulfilled without collaboration and a huge amount of determination, but Manchester 2025 demonstrates how well-positioned the city is to become a truly global destination.”

Manchester is a great student city, and, as this report shows, it’s also a great place to find work. There’s a wide variety of full and part time jobs on holiday in this part of the North West, so students living or studying in Manchester should have no problem finding a flexible job which suits them.
