Argos Looking To Fill 9,000 Christmas Jobs In 2015

Argos has announced its festive wish list by saying it is looking to fill 9,000 temporary Christmas jobs throughout its UK stores in 2015.

The Christmas vacancies surge matches the 9,000 temporary positions which Argos advertised last year, but falls slightly short of the 10,000 seasonal roles on offer with the retailer in 2013.

There will be Argos vacancies this Christmas for 8,000 general ‘customer helpers’ with a further 1,000 jobs to be advertised for seasonal drivers with the catalogue retailer. Various shifts will be on offer, with a minimum of 6 hours for weekend staff and 12 hours for temporary staff who work for Argos on weekdays.

Contracts will start out for around 12 weeks, but there is potential for some of the seasonal Argos staff to become permanent employees at the firm in the New Year. In addition to a “competitive” hourly wage, there are also a few perks of retail work with Argos, such as a 10 per cent staff discount within the company’s own stores and 20 per cent with their sister company Homebase.

Putting a spotlight on the qualities that applicants will need to land one of the 9,000 Christmas jobs at Argos, their director of retail and customer operations, Steve Carson, said: “We need extra support in our stores and we’re looking for people who are customer focused, energetic and enthusiastic. For the first time, we are also seeking drivers to join our store teams and support local deliveries to customers.”

The West Midlands regional manager for Argos, Leigh Baxter, added further details about the seasonal jobs, saying, “Christmas is the busiest and most exciting time to be in retail and our ability to offer more than 20,000 products for the whole family within easy reach is why millions of people shop with us over the festive season. People are at the heart of our business and we are committed to maintaining the friendly, personal service we are known for, whether customers are shopping online or in-store. We can offer fantastic, flexible training that will also benefit people for the long term.”
