Burton and South Derbyshire College predicts that the region will create more than 2,500 new jobs in the creative field over the course of the next five years.

Hundreds of new art, design and media positions are expected to be created in Burton alone before the end of 2020, with the sector predicted to support over 2,600 jobs in the town in five years time. The average salary for a Burton jobs in the creative field is expected to rise to over £22,000, making the sector an attractive proposition for young people in the town.

Other parts of East Staffordshire, along with areas of South Derbyshire, are also forecast to generate hundreds of new vacancies in the creative industry during the same timeframe.

Burton and South Derbyshire College’s head of creative industries, Chris Beech, explained: “In our area alone, the creative design and media industries will grow by 15 per cent by 2020. Burton and the surrounding area is likely to see an increase in demand for creative skills as more people pursue the exciting opportunities in the creative industry.”

Speaking more generally about the creative jobs sector across the UK, Burton's Chamber of Commerce director, Chris Plant, said: “The contribution of the creative industries to the economy increased by a staggering 9.9 per cent alone between 2012-13 and are therefore growing faster than many other sectors in the wider economy. We are delighted with response from students to the new courses being launched by Burton and South Derbyshire College.”
