Boots, the pharmacy chain, is to advertise around 1,300 temporary jobs at its warehouse facility in Burton Upon Trent, Staffordshire.

The warehouse jobs will be at Centrum One Hundred on the Parkway in Burton, and positions will be made available throughout the rest of the year for temporary placements at Boots.

With only just over 900 Burton Upon Trent residents claiming Jobseeker's Allowance, the Boots jobs could, in theory, eradicate unemployment in the Staffordshire town.

Commenting on the announcement, Leader of East Staffordshire Borough Council, Richard Grosvenor said: “This event is a good opportunity for job seekers in East Staffordshire to have direct contact with prospective employers and hopefully walk away with a new job. By making routes to employment more accessible, we can try to help raise the standard of living for the currently unemployed, so I want to encourage as many people as possible to make the most of this and any other Jobs Fair in the future.”

Andrew Griffiths, Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter, also welcomed the Boots announcement, saying: “This is a massive boost to the local economy and great news for the town. This will give opportunities to all those who are not in work.”

The Council are now organising a Job Opportunities Fair this Thursday (28 May 2015) at Burton Market Hall, where Boots and many other employers will be trying to fill their jobs in Staffordshire.
