Morrisons To Create 5000 Supermarket Jobs

Morrisons has announced plans to create 5,000 full or part time supermarket jobs as it looks to improve customer service levels across all of its stores.

Unfortunately, the news comes as the supermarket chain also reveals that it will axe over 700 head office jobs in Bradford, decreasing staff levels in the city from over 2,300 to fewer than 1,600.

New in-store supermarket jobs will be advertised by Morrisons all over the UK, with an average of around ten new roles to be created at each of the company’s 500 stores. It is hoped that the new recruits will improve the customer experience at the firm’s supermarkets by decreasing queuing time at the tills and making sure that products are available on the shelves at all times.

David Potts, the CEO of Morrisons who started his career as a shelf-stacker at Tesco, explained the thinking behind the shifting structure in staffing at the supermarket chain: “We are focusing on the things that matter to our customers. That means having more of our staff in stores, improving product availability and helping customers at our checkouts. We believe our customers and our staff will appreciate the improvements.”

“To support this we need a simpler, faster and cost-conscious head office and that requires some tough but necessary decisions,” add Mr Potts.

Morrisons has struggled to compete with budget supermarket chains such as Aldi and Lidl, but hopes the restructuring will allow it to grow its online business and expand its convenience store business in the UK.

We advertise in-store supermarket jobs at chains across the UK on a regular basis here on the e4s website. Supermarket jobs are a great way into the world of work - and there are usually some added benefits to working with the bigger supermarket chains.
