Supermarkets Aldi & Lidl To Create 1,000 More UK Jobs

Supermarket chains Aldi and Lidl have both announced plans which could see them each create 500 more jobs in England and Wales in the next few years.

Subject to planning permission from the local council, Lidl will open a new distribution centre at Sandwell in the West Midlands, creating hundreds of jobs for logistics staff, office workers and warehouse operatives.

Aldi will also open a distribution centre in Cardiff, creating 400 jobs at the facility itself, and a further 100 full or part time jobs at ten new supermarket stores in Wales, which the new centre would service when it completes in 2017.

Commenting on the new jobs which Lidl will bring to the West Midlands, the Leader of Sandwell Council, Councilor Darren Cooper, said: “This will have a significant positive economic impact. We will be working closely with Lidl on recruitment to secure these jobs for local people.”

And Lidl UK’s Ingo Fischer added: “The new Lidl warehouse in Wednesbury will help service our stores in the West Midlands region as our expansion across the UK continues. We are looking forward to offering our fantastic value and quality products to more customers, as well as bringing new jobs and investment to the area in the not-too-distant future.”

The Aldi distribution centre in Cardiff will come at an investment of close to £60 million and will generate hundred of jobs in Wales at various levels of the company’s business.

Edwina Hart, the Minister for Economy, Science and Transport in Wales, said of the Aldi distribution facility: “Support from the Welsh Government is not only helping to create more than 400 jobs, it is also opening up wider supply chain opportunities for food and beverage suppliers and indirectly supporting jobs in the construction sector. The new centre will offer a wide range of employment opportunities for people in Cardiff, neighbouring areas and the South Wales Valleys.”

Indeed, Aldi are advertising some fantastic opportunities for graduates and apprentices on the E4S website right now. If you are interested in working with one of the big names in retail then apply today for the Aldi Apprenticeship Scheme or positions as Aldi Graduate Area Managers.
