Hastings Direct, the UK insurance firm, has announced plans to create over 200 full or part time call centre jobs in Leicester before the end of the year.

Initially, the company will take on 40 new staff in Leicester within the next two months. Hastings Direct say they will then advertise a further 190 call centre jobs in Leicester city centre.

Hastings Direct already has call centre facilities in Newmarket and East Sussex but will move into new offices in Leicester in the coming months.

Chief executive of Hastings Direct, Gary Hoffman, said that the Government's Regional Growth Fund had provided £1 million in funding for their move into Leicester and that ‘many more millions of pounds’ would be invested by the insurer themselves.

A spokesperson for Hastings Direct said: “Centrally located with excellent transport links across the Midlands, Leicester was a natural frontrunner for Hastings' third UK location. It beat other national contenders not just because of its location, but also for the quality and diversity of talent available. Working closely with Leicester and De Montfort universities, Leicester College and the job centre, Hastings plans to help identify career opportunities for a range of people across a range of experience levels and provide comprehensive training and development.”

Following the 230 full and part time jobs in Leicester which Hastings Direct will create this year, the insurance firm says it has further plans to expand over the next two to three years.

The Mayor of Leicester, Sir Peter Soulsby, welcomed the announcement by Hastings Direct, saying: “This is a major coup for Leicester and shows that the work we are doing to regenerate and promote the city is paying dividends. Hastings Direct is a fast growing, award-winning company and I am delighted that after a national search they have identified Leicester as the place where their new business can thrive.”

“Their plan to create over 200 jobs this year will bring a huge boost to the city's economy, and we look forward to working with them to help them achieve this,” added Sir Soulsby.

Hastings Direct has been in business since 1997 and has expanded its range of vehicle and home insurance products over the years.
