JCB To Dig Up Over 100 New Jobs In Staffordshire

JCB, the manufacturer of equipment for the construction and agriculture industries, is set to create over 100 new full or part time jobs in Staffordshire over the next two years.

The family-owned international company is expanding operations at its environmentally-friendly Blue Planet World Logistics Centre and will take on around 60 new members of staff in warehouse and office roles this year. Next year, JCB will add a further 50 Staffordshire vacancies at the Chatterley Valley logistics hub near Tunstall.

JCB moved into the Blue Planet facility just two years ago after the site had been empty for five years. The operations and logistics at Blue Planet are managed by logistics firm DHL, which also looks after JCB facilities in other areas, both in the UK and abroad.

Kevin Carr, DHL account director, gave an outline of the increase in staff numbers which will take place at the JCB facility, saying: “We currently employ 130 people at the site and by the end of this year we want to take that number to 190. By the end of 2016 we want to be employing at least 240 people at the World Logistics Centre on the Blue Planet site.”

Mr Carr added that recruiting people from the local area was an important element of their environmental and green plans.

Although JCB has its headquarters in 1945 in Rocester, Staffordshire it also has over 20 factories in the UK, Europe, Asia and the Americas. It pumps out more than 300 different types of machinery for use in the construction, agriculture and demolition industries and trades in over 150 countries. Worldwide, the 70 year old company employs in excess of 10,000 people in full and part time roles.

Speaking on the new jobs which are coming to Staffordshire, a spokesperson for JCB said: “We’re delighted our latest expansion is creating jobs in the county. Staffordshire is a fantastic place to do business and this site offers huge advantages for JCB. A lot of the work at the Blue Planet site will be warehouse-based, with various office roles also available.”
