Up To 650 New Hotel Jobs In London At InterContinental

A new InterContinental in London is set to create up to 650 full and part time hotel jobs when it opens its doors to guests later this year. Some of the London jobs on offer are expected to be apprenticeships for young people in the local area, and the company behind the hotel is also hoping to advertise London graduate vacancies at the hotel too.

The 18 storey hotel, to be branded as ‘InterContinental London – The O2’ and managed by The Arora Group under a franchise arrangement with the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), is being built on the Greenwich Peninsula.

The completed hotel will boast over 450 hotel rooms, covering an area of more than 7 acres. The InterContinental London – The O2 will also feature a luxury spa, banqueting and conferencing facilities, a ballroom which can cater for up to 3,000 people, a restaurant and a rooftop bar area.

The Arora Group expect that there will be at least 500 full and part time jobs created by the hotel, with potential for a further 150 vacancies to be advertised at peak times. There will be at least 350 front and back of house positions at the hotel, along with up to 350 flexible roles for people to work in events jobs and at the conferencing, banqueting and other catering facilities. At least 2 in 5 roles will be filled by people living in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, says The Arora Group.

Speaking about the new hotel, Arora’s founder and chief executive, Surinder Arora, said the development will be ‘the most significant new London hotel, of this size and scale, to open in decades.’

“We are committed to working with the local council, local community organisations, universities and colleges to secure the very best talent from those that share our vision and passion to make this hotel, in this exciting destination, compete on the world’s stage,” said Mr Arora.

The group is keen to work with the local council, universities and colleges to develop specialised roles for young apprentices and graduates.

Commercial director for the group, Raj Shah, said: “As a vital part of the Greenwich Peninsula regeneration project, we see tremendous value in involving the whole community as a key part of our launch programme, and that includes local partners as well as people.”

The Arora Group currently operates two of their own hotels - at London Heathrow and London Gatwick - and manages five other hotels under franchise agreements with Accor, Marriott and IHG. The InterContinental London – The O2 will become the eighth hotel in the group’s stable when it completes towards the end of this year.
