Deloitte, the professional services firm, is one of six businesses which will create over 1,000 new jobs in Cardiff and other parts of Wales.

Deloitte is generating the lion’s share of the new Welsh vacancies, with over 700 Cardiff jobs to be on offer at their accountancy, auditing and consultancy firm. Once filled, Deloitte will employ more than 1,000 employees in Cardiff.

Another major boost to Welsh employment has been given by telecoms firm Griffin Place Communications, which will create around 300 call centre jobs in Torfaen, Wales with plans to open a new facility there.

Further jobs in Wales are to be created by packing specialist Essentra, aircraft manufacturer Raytheon, software business Smartpipe Solutions and hi-tech firm SPTS Technologies, which between them will advertise over 140 more vacancies in Newport, Cwmbran and Broughton.

First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, said the jobs bonanza across Wales was a ‘good news day’ and added that the country boasts the talent and the skills to fill the roles.

“We operate in a global market and there is global competition for these projects. These companies could have been located anywhere in the world and I am happy to say they all chose to come to Wales. If you look at our universities, they certainly are able to produce the people with the skills that are needed. There may be some people who might come down in the initial stages into Wales but in the medium term, certainly, these are jobs for local people,” said Mr Jones.
