1,000 New Ocado Jobs Before Christmas

Ocado, the world’s biggest online food retailer, has announced that it is looking to fill 1,000 new jobs before the Christmas holidays.

The majority of the Christmas jobs of which we bring you news are temporary vacancies for a few weeks in the run up to the holidays and through into New Year, but these jobs at Ocado are to be permanent roles according to the online supermarket company.

Over half of the new jobs at Ocado will be for drivers - or what the company likes to call their ‘Customer Service Team Members’ - with more than 600 new permanent positions created in such roles. Around 200 driver jobs will be advertised at Ocado’s delivery centres in Enfield, Ruislip, Weybridge and Wimbledon, with a further 400 to be filled nationwide.

More than 200 of the new positions will be West Midlands jobs, as Ocado swells the ranks of its pickers and packers at its Customer Fulfilment Centre in Dordon.

Human Resources Director at Ocado, Julie Markey, said the company had grown over the last ten years to become an employer of more than 8,000 members of staff in the UK. Ms Markey, stressed, however, that the 1,000 new jobs to be filled this December were much more than seasonal positions, saying that the new roles they are creating are ‘for life, not just for Christmas.’

“These are permanent jobs, showing that we’re not just busy in December like most retailers – we’re busy all year round as people are shifting their shopping habits to buying online. We’re looking to welcome every single person we recruit into the Ocado family and we also want to help them develop.”

“Ocado offers employees the support, structure and opportunity to progress and build a long term career. It’s an environment in which people can shape their own future, and many of those who joined our Dordon team last year have already developed into managerial, engineering or training roles,” said Ms Markey.

It is, of course, wonderful to see hundreds of new permanent positions being created at this time of year, but we know that most of our website visitors are looking for something more short term in the run up to Christmas. You can earn a ton of money by working full or part time during the holidays and we advertise temporary positions all over the nation.
