Royal Mail Stamps 450 Christmas Jobs On Stoke

In the first news of holiday jobs to be advertised by Royal Mail in the run up to Christmas 2014, the postal service company has said it is looking to fill 450 Christmas jobs at its Etruria call centre in Staffordshire.

The Royal Mail customer service in Stoke is always a busy hive of activity, but needs extra hands on deck as the amount of post needed to be delivered double in the weeks up to Christmas. The new temporary recruits will start work with Royal Mail at the beginning of November and will help other data entry staff at the Etruria call centre to make sure that letters and parcels are delivered to the intended addresses.

Commenting on the Royal Mail news, the chief exec of Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, Sara Williams, said: “While the jobs are only temporary, they will provide a vital boost over the challenging Christmas period. With the strong economy, we are now better placed to support our local workforce and create new opportunities.”

Joan Walley, a local MP, also welcomed the announcement by Royal Mail, and mentioned that not all of the Christmas jobs on offer would be temporary placements:

“These are hard economic times so I was pleased when Royal Mail contacted me to ask me to let families in my constituency know that they are advertising these jobs, many of which may lead to full-time positions,” said Ms Walley, MP for Stoke-on-Trent North.

We don’t (as yet) know how many Christmas jobs Royal Mail will have offer on a temporary basis all across the rest of the UK this year, but the organisation usually swells its numbers by at least 10,000 for their frenetic festive season.

Last year the Royal Mail added over 20,000 temporary Christmas workers and in 2009 the Royal Mail added 30,000 Christmas jobs to their shopping list. We expect an announcement of the number of holiday jobs that will be on offer in 2014 to follow from the company very soon. So, as soon as we get news of how many extra Christmas jobs will be advertised at Royal Mail this year, we’ll update here to give you maximum breathing space to apply for temporary roles in the run up to the Xmas holidays.

But don’t forget that you really don’t need to wait until December to start applying for temporary Christmas work - you can do that right here, right now, on our specialist page of UK Christmas Jobs 2014.
