New Amazon Tech Centre To Create Over 3,000 Jobs In London

Amazon UK has announced plans to open a new tech centre in the UK capital which has the potential to create over 3,000 new tech jobs in London.

The new 15-storey Amazon base in London will be in the Shoreditch area and should be ready to start accommodating new and existing employees within the next couple of years. To be named ‘Principal Place,’ the new Amazon offices will centralise the company’s 1,700 employees from existing London and Slough offices and will have extra space for over 3,300 new graduates and other members of staff.

Total staff capacity at Amazon’s Principal Palace on the Silicon Roundabout will exceed 5,000 employees but, as yet, the company has not set a timescale for when the thousands of new London jobs will be advertised.

Christopher North, managing director of Amazon UK, said that the e-commerce giant had already created over 7,000 permanent jobs with their investment of more than £1 billion in the United Kingdom.

And, commenting on the future graduate jobs and other roles that Amazon UK look set to create in London and elsewhere, Mr North added: “We have secured this exceptional building giving us the capacity to hire thousands of new employees in London in the coming years, in addition to the thousands of permanent roles we will create across our UK fulfilment and customer service centres.”

As well as office space for new Amazon employees, Principal Palace, when completed, will feature shops, cafes, restaurants and events facilities across an area covering more than 50,000 square metres.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, welcomed the Amazon announcement, saying: “Our city is the perfect home for top tech talent and I am very pleased that Amazon has confirmed their intention to create thousands of new jobs at a major new base in east London. We are proving time and again that we have the right places and people to support this vibrant sector.”
