Trust us, the 360 new apprenticeships on offer at Co-op Funeralcare are anything but dead-end jobs! If you don’t fancy building up a debt by doing a degree, then why not go full circle with these 360 entry level jobs for the UK’s young people?

Co-op Funeralcare took on 500 apprentices last year, into what is the UK’s only funeral apprenticeship scheme, and they now have places for hundreds more again this year. The scheme is open to 16 to 25 year olds and has a decent conversion rate to full time work, with around 1 in 13 apprentices going on to take up full time jobs as funeral directors after finishing their qualifications at Co-op.

Explaining what an apprenticeship at the firm can offer, Karen Fenton, the head of human resources at Co-op Funeralcare said: “A funeral apprenticeship is a new way to join the industry and the response we've had to the scheme has been remarkable. High quality training and development and access to professional qualifications ensures our employees can provide the highest standards of client service and care for the bereaved.”

Co-op Funeralcare employs over 80,000 staff in the UK, and almost 17,000 of those are young people under the age of 25. The apprenticeships not only give young people the chance to gain work experience, they also allow them to study towards a recognised qualification in a specialised area of their business. So, as the Co-op Funeralcare website says, by completing the apprenticeship, ‘you might become a fully qualified IT or business administration professional, for example’.
