Aldi, the german supermarket chain, could create around 430 new Welsh jobs in Cardiff and Swansea if it receives planning permission from the respective councils.

Aldi is hoping to open a huge, new 46,000 square metre distribution centre on Capital Business Park, in Wentloog between Cardiff and Newport, and it forecasts the completed development will create up to 400 full or part time jobs. The proposed facility would handle frozen and chilled products and could distribute to over 100 Aldi stores if the plans get the green light from Cardiff council.

The chain is also looking to develop a supermarket in the Llansamlet area of Swansea and says the completed store could provide 30 supermarket jobs for the local area.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Aldi has submitted a planning application to Swansea Council for a development on Samlet Road in Swansea. Our current stores on Carmarthen Road, and in Gorseinon, are trading well and after numerous requests from local residents we believe an opportunity exists to serve the residents of Llansamlet.”
