Aldi Advertising 150 New Supermarket Jobs In Nottingham

Aldi, the German discount supermarket chain, is looking for 150 people to fill supermarket jobs at three new stores in Nottinghamshire.

A recruitment day was held for the new Nottingham jobs last weekend but many vacancies are still up for grabs at future stores in and around the city. Over 200 people attended the event at Millennium Way West in Nottingham last Sunday, hoping to land full or part time supermarket jobs with the company when the stores open from September onwards this year.

Positions on offer at Aldi range from just 15 hours a week and can command starting wages of close to £8 per hour for even entry level store assistant roles.

One local hopeful, Emma Cairney, however, was at the recruitment drive looking for a position further up the management chain at Aldi:

“I have worked in retail before so I would like a supervisor role if possible. I like the security of the jobs they are offering. There are a lot of jobs out there that have zero-hour contracts. There are also lots of people that are more experienced going for entry-level jobs. I only saw the advert the day before the recruitment drive and I didn’t hesitate to make plans to get down here,” said Ms Cairney.

As well as one city centre supermarket in Nottingham, Aldi already has other stores in the Radford, Bulwell, Hucknall, Long Eaton, Sutton in Ashfield, Mansfield, Newark and Shirebrook areas of Nottinghamshire. The three new Aldi stores at Basford, Daybrook and Mapperley will take the German chain’s tally of supermarkets in the region to twelve outlets, and more are expected to be added by the firm in coming years.

Giving some reasons as to why young people should consider full or part time work with Aldi, director of store operations, Nicola Morgan, said: “Successful candidates will receive high-quality training in Aldi’s stores to ensure they are ready to start in the new stores when they open. Aldi has a track record of developing talent and rewarding high-performing individuals.”
