Aldi To Create 5,500 UK Supermarket Jobs This Year

Aldi has confirmed that it will expand and create over 5,500 full and part time supermarket jobs in the UK this year.

We first mentioned news of the expansion plans and job creation at Aldi in an article at the beginning of this year, but new details confirm that the number of jobs to be advertised at the supermarket this year will be somewhere in the region of 5,550 vacancies.

Aldi is to open over 50 new supermarkets in the UK this year and will add extensions at a further 30 existing stores. The move will see the German firm generate thousands of entry level jobs, apprenticeships, general store positions and management roles across the whole of the United Kingdom.

The majority of the new jobs at Aldi will be general roles within supermarkets, with only around 1 in 10 jobs being at store management or assistant store management level.

The firm has also added an Aldi Academy at Middleton in North West England which will centralise the training and development of their staff in the UK.

Managing director and overseer of the Aldi Academy project, James Hutcheson, said: “It is undoubtedly a challenge for Aldi to recruit thousands of staff during the next nine months, but with roles available in all UK stores, we believe there is a strong desire to work for a successful and growing retailer. The launch of the Aldi Academy will ensure that recruitment and training is standardised across the whole of the Aldi UK business.”
