New store openings by Marks & Spencer, Aldi and Sainsbury's could create up to 700 retail jobs in Nottingham over the coming months.

Marks & Spencer will open a new Simply Food store in Nottingham next year, generating an estimated 75 jobs for the Netherfield area at Victoria Retail Park. Aldi will add a new supermarket in Colwick creating a further 200 jobs in Nottingham. And Sainsbury’s will open a new store nearby and expects to advertise around 450 new supermarket jobs by the time it opens its doors.

The new Sainsbury’s in Nottingham will be a massive development covering over 7,600 square metres near the Colwick Loop Road. The area will also see a new Marston’s pub and restaurant at the site, which is to be developed by the City Estates Group.

Commenting on two of the new store openings in Nottingham, the leader of Gedling Borough Council, John Clarke, said: “It's great news that Sainsbury is coming here and with M&S in prospect as well, we have got some good job prospects coming up. With Sainsbury's, you'll see one of the last big supermarket developments in the UK, as opposed to local stores, and I'm glad it's happening here because it will help us to tidy up a site that has been standing empty for years.”
