7,000 New Jobs To Take Off At Newcastle International Airport Business Centre

Up to 7,000 full or part time Newcastle jobs are set to be created at a new business park close to the city’s airport.

Construction of the new business park at Newcastle International Airport in the North East will be staggered over four phases, with completion expected in 2030. The first phase will see six new office buildings added with a total floor space of 175,000 square feet and will provide enough working room for 1,000 employees.

Enthusing about the new business park at the launch yesterday, Nick Forbes, leader of Newcastle City Council, said: “Growing a business park here won't just be about creating new jobs and growth, it's one of the ways we're able to demonstrate the confidence we've got in Newcastle as a growing part of the UK's economy. It's about people seeing Newcastle as an international place of business. It's about putting us on that international map where people feel they are able to come and do business here, set up a business and even locate their headquarters.”

Over 4 million travellers pass through Newcastle International Airport each year, supporting more than 3,200 full and part time jobs on location at the North East’s biggest airport. It is estimated that in the region as a whole, Newcastle International Airport provides jobs for a further 4,600 people and adds over £640 million to the economy.

The 7,000 Newcastle jobs which the new business park will create will, however, almost double the number of people that the airport directly and indirectly provides jobs for in the North East, as well as generating a further £300 million for the region.

Speaking about potential diversity of companies that might move in to office space at the new business park, Dave Laws, Chief Executive of Newcastle International Airport, said:

“The location is great not only for aviation related companies, but also professional services, technology and IT, telecommunications and oil and gas & offshore businesses, who can make use of the excellent connectivity on offer.”
