JLR & Rolls Royce To Steer 1,500 New Jobs In Wolverhampton & Chichester

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Rolls Royce are set to create around 1,500 vacancies in the car industry as they look to fill full and part time jobs in Chichester and Wolverhampton.

JLR will generate the majority of the new jobs as they stagger the recruitment of 1,400 new staff at their Wolverhampton facility over the course of the next few years. The car manufacturer is pumping in £500 million investment into the West Midlands plant, in part to help produce a new range of engines with lower emission outputs.

800 of the JLR jobs will be for maintenance staff, engineers and logistics operators. The other 600 Wolverhampton vacancies will be on the manufacturing side of the Jaguar Land Rover business, and it is expected that the positions will be filled by the end of 2018.

Stressing the need to find high quality employees to fill the new roles, Trevor Leek, operations director at JLR, said: “Our new Engine Manufacturing Centre is a significant strand of Jaguar Land Rover's global growth ambition and it is critical that we have a world-class manufacturing team at the heart of our new plant.”

Meanwhile, Rolls Royce have announced plans to create 100 new jobs in Chichester at their facility in Goodwood as they seek to cope with extra demand from overseas markets - especially America and China where sales of Rolls Royce cars are performing well.

To put that in perspective, the company sold over 3,500 cars last year, but only 1 in 10 of the vehicles stayed within the UK. Between them, the US and China accounted for purchases of around 2,400 Rolls Royce models last year, and now the car manufacturer needs extra staff to help manufacturer more vehicles to fulfill the increase in interest from abroad.
