80% Of Companies Expect More Graduates Jobs & Apprenticeships In 2014

A new report called ‘On The Up’ jointly produced by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and management consultancy firm Accenture reveals that around 80 per cent of UK companies expect there we be more graduate jobs, apprenticeships and other opportunities to young people in 2014.

In an upbeat report, the CBI survey predicts that next year, for the first time in the five years since the economic slowdown set in, there will be a majority of UK companies offering new full or part time jobs. Over half (51%) of the 300-plus companies that were canvassed their hiring forecasts said that they were expecting to have more employees on their payroll in one year’s time.

Around 1 in 3 companies surveyed said that they expected to offer more graduate jobs in 2014 and 2 in 5 said they hoped to offer more apprenticeships to young people.

The report also suggests that the number of new permanent positions available in the UK economy was now growing quicker than the number of temporary jobs on offer. The net percentage of companies expecting to offer more permanent roles was 18 per cent, as opposed to the 14 per cent that thought they would offer more temporary positions.

Chief policy director of the Confederation of British Industry, Katja Hall, said: “We're starting to see the recovery have an impact on business plans to hire, with more than half of firms boosting staff numbers next year and more opportunities for young people.”

With notable hotspots of job optimism outside of the capital including the East Midlands and Yorkshire, Ms Hall added: “It's good to see jobs being created across most regions, not just London and the South East. Our labour market performed well throughout the recession and pay caution and flexible contracts will continue to underpin growth.”

Managing director of Accenture (co-producer of the ‘On The Up’ report), Olly Benzecry, was also encouraged by the findings, describing them as ‘another welcome sign of the UK's economic recovery.’

“The skills agenda is critical to not only sustain this growth but to make it inclusive, increasing employability and opportunities for young people who are not in a job, training or education,” said Mr Benzecry.

It is great to hear good news about graduate jobs, school leaver schemes, apprenticeships and other opportunities for young people in the United Kingdom. We do our best to find graduate positions for university leavers all over the country, and source as many jobs as we can for young people who don’t want to go on to further education too.
