Marks & Spencer, the high street retailer, is all set to create around 300 new jobs in Sheffield as it relocates to two warehouse facilities in the city.

The retail chain will utilise over 60 thousand square metres of floor space when they move some elements of their logistic requirements from Bradford to their new facilities at Sheffield International Rail Freight Terminal in the Tinsley area of the city.

The Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership’s chairman, James Newman, welcomed the news from M&S, saying that the retailer was a fantastic addition to the burgeoning logistics sector in the city.

With Marks & Spencer following in the footsteps of other big retailers like Next and Amazon by setting up logistic and distribution facilities in Sheffield, the chain will be contributing to a sector than already provides jobs for more than 30,000 people in the city.

Council Leader of Sheffield City Council, Julie Dore, was also pleased with the announcement from Marks & Spencer.

“This is just another example of confidence in Sheffield. Sheffield is at the heart of the UK and is ideally located to provide businesses with a central point to distribute across the country. We are committed to supporting business, to bringing new jobs and opportunities for local people,” said Labour councillor Dore.
