Argos, the catalogue and online retailer of close to 30,000 products, has said it will be advertising 10,000 Christmas jobs for the 2013 festive holidays.

The temporary Christmas jobs at Argos are for three months initially, but there is a good chance that a proportion of the positions will lead on to longer term roles at the retailer.

Although not as many as the 12,000 temporary jobs that Argos advertised last year and for Christmas 2011, the positions available still represent a sizeable proportion of the expected total of seasonal jobs which will be on offer this festive period.

And, as Argos employs around 30,000 members of staff on a permanent basis at more than 700 stores and support facilities, the temporary Christmas staff will swell their ranks by over 30 per cent for duration of the holiday season.

Managing Director, John Walden, said that Argos had been a traditional element of Christmas in Britain for the last 40 years. He also explained why boosting their ranks with quality staff at Christmas was so important to the company’s success over the holidays:

“As we approach our busiest shopping period of the year, we need the extra support in our stores from enthusiastic colleagues to ensure that we continue to deliver brilliant customer service to the millions that shop with us at this time of year. We are looking for people who are customer-focused, passionate and enthusiastic to join our teams,” said Mr Walden.

Don’t leave it til December if you want to be sure of finding a temporary Christmas job during the holidays. As well as Argos, companies like Amazon, John Lewis and, most recently, Matalan & Dixons Retail have already announced how many jobs they have available for Christmas 2013.
