Home, leisure and garden retailer, The Range, is to open a new store in Scotland and will create around 150 full and part time Dundee jobs in the process.

The new store will be in the Lochee area of Dundee at the Stack Leisure Park. The Range will be looking for local people to fill roles as store assistants, admin staff, warehouse teams and management staff.

Owner and founder of The Range, Chris Dawson, said Dundee council had been very supportive and had made the company feel very welcome considering the chain is relatively new to Scotland.

The Range has over 70 stores in the United Kingdom and employs around 2,500 staff, but has until recently concentrated on opening new outlets south of the border.

“We are very pleased to be creating a number of jobs in the area and look forward to inviting potential employees to join the team. Dundee is a location with so much potential, we are continuing to grow fast and expand and I am confident that The Range Dundee will help us in doing this,” said Mr Dawson.

Local councillor, Alan Ross, was happy to see the plans for the new Lochee outlet coming to fruition, particularly since it will be located at a shop which has been vacant for a number of years following the departure of supermarket chain Tesco. Megabowl also moved out of the Stack Leisure Park in 2011, so the facility has faced some difficult times in recent years.

“All jobs that come to this area are welcome, particularly in the Stack Leisure Park. People have wanted to see something happen there for a long time,” said councillor Ross.
