A new survey has warned that student digs are a hotspot for potential burglaries.
The study, by Endsleigh Insurance, found that the average undergraduate now owns more that £4,000 of valuables.
One in three students apparently takes between £4000 and £7000 worth of belongings to university with them.
Over 80 per cent of students were found to have their own TV and almost 70 per cent owned a laptop.
The poll, of more than 8,000 UK students, also confirmed that almost all students now carry valuable electronic goods around with them.
Some 98 per cent were found to own a mobile and 75 per cent had an MP3 player.
As reported by the Press Association, Stuart Wartalski of Endsleigh Insurance said: "Clearly today's students are better equipped than ever before.
"A student house or hall of residence could potentially contain tens of thousands of pounds worth of hi-tech, portable and expensive valuables such as laptops and digital cameras - all in the same place."
Mr Wartalski warned that students therefore need to be especially conscious of the risk of burglary.
The survey found that a number of students are putting off buying insurance because they think it is too expensive, despite the fact that over 50 per cent have been a victim of theft or know of a fellow student that has.
