Scheme On Scottish Jobs & Colleges For Young People Working Out

A scheme called Activity Agreements is helping hundreds of young people in Scotland into either jobs, training programmes or college courses.

The initiative, which all councils in Scotland have signed up to be a part of, has seen success rates of 7 in 10 from more than 2,600 young 16 to 19 year olds in the country.

Angela Constance, Minister for Youth Employment in Scotland, praised the scheme and councils involved in it, saying that college courses, training programmes and real jobs could transform the lives of young people.

“Activity Agreements exist to help some of our most vulnerable young people improve their job prospects. Not only am I very pleased all councils now offer Activity Agreements, but the rate of young people moving on to fresh, positive opportunities clearly shows they are working,” said Ms Constance.

The minister added that said that both the government and the 32 Scottish councils taking part in the scheme were in it for the long haul and there will be no let up in their determination to help young people in the country.

Around 1,800 people have found work, a college place or a training programme through the Activity Agreements scheme so far, and just short of 4 in 5 the young people involved have progressed for more than six months already.
