Up to 300 Manchester jobs are to be created by The Cartwright Group, a company which says it is committed to offering positions to young people.

The Greater Manchester firm, which manufactures trailers and commercial vehicles for big businesses like Asda, Pets At Home, FedEx, Royal Mail and Airbus, already employs over 400 people but hopes to swell its ranks to 700 in the next few years.

Over 200 of the new positions the Group will create will be full time jobs - and there will be around 90 opportunities, staggered over the next three years, for young apprentices from nearby Stockport College.

Positions available at The Cartwright Group will range from shop floor staff to administrative roles at the company’s Altrincham base.

Managing director of The Cartwright Group, Steven Cartwright, thinks more should be done to help young people find manufacturing jobs in the current climate of the UK.

“It would be great if a more joined-up approach through the schools, with the help of the government, was in place to help build the awareness of manufacturing as a serious career option,” said Mr Cartwright.

The Cartwright Group has been in business for almost 60 years and has a fleet over over 4,000 trailers. In 2012, it invested almost £3 million to upgrade its product range and service structure, which has paved the way for the hundreds of new Manchester jobs it will advertise soon.
